A psychologist is a trained professional who uses the scientific method to study human behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and mental processes, and uses this knowledge to help people understand, manage, and improve their mental health, relationships, performance, and well-being.
Psychologists can practice in various settings, not just clinical settings (research, organizations, sports, legal system, schools).
Currently, to hold the title of Psychologist, it requires a Doctors degree (Ph.D./D.Psy.).
A clinical psychologist is a licensed mental health professional (Ph.D. or D.Psy.) who specializes in assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders using psychological methods, primarily psychotherapy and psychological testing.
They work with people experiencing anything from everyday distress to severe mental illness using evidence-based therapy.
Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Psychiatrists are medical doctors and are typically the mental health specialists that prescribe medication for mental health.
I salute your commitment towards yourself. In order to book, you can reach me through the contact page by clicking on Contact Me (at the top right of the page) or Contact (at the bottom of the page). There, you'll be able to fill the contact form by stating your name, your email, phone number and if you wish, to enter the reason for consultation. I will contact you afterwards as soon as I am available. Note that I only contact clients during working week hours.
The fee for therapy services is $240 per hour. A typical therapy session lasts 50 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for record keeping.
Psychological services offered in the private sector are not covered by Medicare in New Brunswick. However, psychologists are professionals offering services often recognized by various insurance companies, for example Medavie Blue Cross. You are responsible for finding out if your insurance plan covers the services sought in order to be reimbursed.
You will receive an official receipt for the services rendered which you can then submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
You can also keep your receipts for tax purposes since psychological services are tax-deductible expenses.
Unfortunately I don't engage in direct billing at this time. It is your responsibility as a client to verify if your Insurance covers the psychotherapy services. Receipts will be emitted following a payed psychotherapy session. It is the client's responsibility to submit the receipts to their insurance company for reimbursement.
Yes, I offer free 15-minute consultation calls. This provides an opportunity for you to assess whether my services align with your mental health needs and comfort, or if a referral to more suitable resources would be helpful. To book a consultation, you can contact me by phone, or by pressing the Contact button at the bottom or the top of the page to get redirected to my contact information.
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask for at least 24-hour notice. If you do not present yourself to your scheduled session or if the notice of cancellation is within 24-hour of your scheduled session, you will be charged the full service fee.
Please note, if you are not able to attend an in-person appointment due to the weather or other unforeseen circumstances, I can provide an online videoconference session.

No. No appointments are made ''on the fly''. As my schedule is predetermined by scheduling clients, I cannot see clients or new clients in an impromptu fashion. It is also a matter of securing confidentiality for visiting clients who booked their time in advance. To book, get in contact with me through the website (''contact me'' page), Email (info@jspsy.ca) ((info@jspsy.ca))or Phone (1-506-248-9196).
During your first session, you can expect a welcoming environment where your psychologist will try to promote a safe and open dialogue. The initial session usually involves a review of services and policies, consent forms, intake forms, and thorough assessment of your current situation, your history, and your presenting concerns (which can extend to following sessions). Your therapeutic goals will also be assessed and discussed with your psychologist. Treatment plan will eventually be formulated to meet your needs.
Your comfort with the process is very important, and thus, collaboration is encouraged. The maintenance of your privacy and confidentiality is also taken seriously.
I cannot guarantee specific results or improvements of your symptoms within a specific number of sessions. As each client and their context are unique, time may vary from client to client. The frequency of sessions will be determined based on various factors, such as your current mental health state, your needs, your concerns, and your comfort level. The more actively and frequently you are engaged, the more you are likely to benefit from the treatment.
It usually takes 1-4 sessions to gather your history and to have a better sense of your difficulties and their mechanisms (though at times, some information might also come farther along the therapy process). Short-term therapies usually last between 6 and 20 sessions and long-term therapies can last a year or more. Everyone's needs are unique.
Please note that I do not provide crisis or emergency support. Due to the nature of my practice, I focus on ongoing therapeutic work, and the typical wait time for a follow-up session is approximately 2 to 3 weeks.
If you are experiencing a crisis or need immediate help, click the Additional help/crisis button located at the bottom of the page, or in the drop down menu of the Resource tab at the top right of the page. There you will find resources you can contact to assist you.
